Why we built Secure Internet Portal
The problem
After listening to our customers, we looked around the market for a very secure way to authenticate clients outside the firewall, while maintaining ease of use and guaranteeing trouble-free deployment. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
What we discovered
We didn’t find much that could fit the bill.
The really good security solutions came encumbered with middleware and drivers that our customer would have to make their customers install. That meant deployment and portability problems, compatibility issues and support headaches. It also added a whole lot more to the per user cost.
The solutions that tackled the deployment and usability issues - such as one-time password (OTP) tokens, sacrificed security. They introduced man in the middle and phishing vulnerabilities, for example, and so presented themselves as time bombs.
The solution
There had to be something out there that balanced usability and security concerns well – and allowed businesses to confidently offer online services to their clients.
We couldn’t find it. So we built it. We came up with a solution that was highly secure and yet simple to use. And now several large customers have deployed it – including a major bank and, since 2008, all tax agents in Australia who lodge on-line with the Tax office.
The lesson
The best solutions aren’t always the most complex, but they are the solutions that speak to the customer’s real needs.
