Transaction security
Effective transaction security is critical to an organisation's reputation as a trusted partner for e-business. Transaction security and cryptography provide the electronic equivalents of the identifications, signatures and seals that create a legally binding commercial exchange and the mechanism for exchanging that information confidentially over an open network, such as the internet.
Transaction security focuses on establishing a trusted relationship between the transacting parties. It establishes that the parties involved in the transaction are who they claim to be (authentication); that the transaction itself is being kept private (confidentiality); that the information involved in the transaction is accurate and up-to-date (integrity); and that neither side can later deny or dispute the transaction (non-repudiation).
Public key cryptography and identity management and access control play important roles in establishing and conducting transaction security.
