ComputerWorld published an article saying that statistically, when a company has a data breach, if they disclose how many records were lost their stock price will take a substantial hit, but if they keep that information to themselves their stock price will hardly be affected.

Any security professional will tell you that attempting to retrofit security to a system is invariably expensive and seldom works.
